The Amazing Reason Keanu Reeves Has Never Worked in a Marvel Film Despite Countless Offers

Keanu Reeves rose to international fame after delivering exceptional performance in the classic The Matrix trilogy as the lead character Neo.

Not only that, the actor has continued to partake in blockbuster films throughout his acting career, establishing a firm position for himself as an A-list celebrity in Hollywood.

Hence, it should come as no surprise that Marvel Studios, one of the biggest film producers in Hollywood, wants to work with him.

No Agreement So Far

According to the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, the studio has had many discussions with the actor in the past about working on Marvel projects, as having Reeves onboard would certainly mean more traction considering the immense popularity of the actor. However, and rather, unfortunately, there has been no development in this respect so far.

Apparently, Marvel has been approaching Reeves quite often to figure out a way he may be included in the films, but nothing seems to have worked out so far. Clearly the actor also wants to work with the studio, otherwise, he would not be engaging in these discussions so frequently.

As per Feige, the goal is to find the best fit for Reeves in the Marvel Universe, and there is no guarantee that this will ever happen. It is not uncommon for filmmakers to fail in finding the right fit for an actor in the film.

For example, according to Feige, the studio had approached actor Jake Gyllenhaal to work in the latest installment of Spider-Man, however, it did not work out.

A Test Of Time

Simply including Reeves in a Marvel film would not reap the benefits that can come from a perfect fit between the actor’s talent and Marvel’s universe.

Reeves holds a lot of star power, which becomes a challenge for Marvel’s filmmakers as there is a very good chance the actor’s established persona would make it difficult to register the character on-screen.

For example, when people refer to Captain America, they don’t refer to Chris Evans. In fact, many people now refer to Chris Evans as Captain America, which means that Marvel has done a great job and found a perfect match between the actor and the character. They would want to do the same with Reeves if he ever becomes a part of the universe.

The studio had reportedly found a fit for Reeves in the Captain Marvel film, as it was considered that the actor would be perfect to play the character of Yon-Rogg.

Unfortunately, Reeves was also committed to work in John Wick 3, a film in which he had a leading role, and due to conflicts in scheduling, he ultimately had to drop out of the Marvel film. This role was eventually taken up by Jude Law.

Renewed Hope

It has been rumored that an upcoming film in the Marvel franchise called The Eternals would involve Reeves and considering how vocal Feige is about having the actor work with the studio, we are inclined to believe it. We just hope Reeves would be able to find some time among his many projects to work in this one as well.
