Meet The First Ever Korean Pop Act To Hit Number One In The US
Back in 2013, BTS band started its career with a question ‘What’s your dream’. Now in 2018, after 5 years of hard work and struggle, the septet from South Korea has achieved their dream as they topped the Billboard ranking with the album ‘Love Yourself: Tear’. This is the first time that a South Korean music band achieved No.1 ranking since Divo’s Ancora achieved it in 2006.
The band worked hard for almost half a decade to make their album No.1. The success of BTS group is only due to the teamwork and the physical and social media connection the band had built with their fans over past five years. Now the band not only represents the South Korea but also the music industry of the United States.
The band was put together as a hip-hop music band by Big Hit Entertainment back in 2010. BTS band debuted their first album ‘2 Cool 4 Skool’ back in 2013. Dubbed Bulletproof Boyscouts in English, the band was then joined by the rapper Kim Nam-Joon, and dancer-turned-rapper Jung Ho-Seok.
After that couple of vocalists in the lights of Kim Tae-Hyung, Park Jimin and Jeon Jungkook joined the band. During the five- year struggle, the band released many songs on socio-economic issues like ‘No More Dream’. The thing which was achieved by BTS was never achieved by their counterparts like K-pop. Soon the band got attention in South Korea and then took the award of the best new artist at Melon Music Awards.
After that, the band started interacting with the fans via YouTube and Twitter. The following year, BTS lay down the groundwork with the release of songs like Danger, Just One Day and War Of Hormones. These songs help the band make their mark in the North American Market.
The following year, BTS came to the United States and recorded their show ‘American Hustle Life’ with Warren G. In 2014, BTS targetted Japan and recorded a new music album there. At the end of 2015, BTS made a lot of fans and showed that they are ready to learn new music. BTS also recorded songs for both Korea and Japan in 2015. At that time, the only thing that was missing from the BTS was a hit song that can attract more fans. But then came the song ‘I NEED YOU‘ which filled that missing gap.
The song ‘I NEED YOU’ made to the top 5 of Gaon’s weekly singles chart and became one of the most favorite songs of South Korea. Also, this song was the first verified song of the band. I NEED YOU was then followed by another hit ‘Dope‘ which was highly liked by the fans.
Dope shows the hard work BTS put in on the lyrics of the song. Then came the part 2 of the album The Most Beautiful Moment In Life which consists of only one song, ‘RUN‘. The time 2nd part of the album The Most Beautiful Moment In Life released, the first part had made the BTS famous among the fans. Part 2 was the first album to make it to the top 200 of the Billboards albums and was ranked 171st. The following May, BTS released Young Forever compilation of the album The Most Beautiful Moment In Life which consists of the songs like ‘Save Me’, ‘Epilogue’, and ‘Fire’.
Young Forever release also made up to the top 200 of the Billboards List and this time the album was ranked 107th. The popularity of the BTS band took them to the headlines of NY 2016 and KCON.
Wings, second Korean studio album by BTS was released in October and then the album jumped to number 26th in the top 200 ranking of Billboard Music. ‘Blood Sweat and Tears‘, the part of Wings album, became the first No.1 song of BTS in South Korea. After that, the song was sung by BTS in a total of 40 concerts in Asia.
In February 2017, the band added two more songs, ‘Not Today’ and ‘Spring Day’, to the album Wings. These additions took the album to number 15th in the list of 100 hottest charts of Billboard. Her EP, then become the first BTS album to make it into the top 10 of the Billboards list of top 200.
