When people think of the most wealthy people they know, one of the first questions that may come to mind is, “what do they spend their money on?” Oftentimes, they may showcase their purchases on social media, but, as for what they’re truly like in the real world, only a select few will ever find out. We asked people who work directly for the super-wealthy to share some of their best and worst stories, and many of these employees delivered. We’ve gathered some of the wildest tales about affluent employers and what they spend their money on, so we can all get some insight into the mysterious world of the uber-wealthy.

Story 1: A generous tipper

An old high school teacher, who happens to be an extremely successful private tutor and does a lot of work in the wealthy neighborhoods in the area, told us about one of his encounters with rich people. He was once tutoring a kid and helped him get prepared and pass his college-level physics class. At the end of their last session, the kid told him to wait there, went into his dad’s office and came out with his salary – plus an extra $1,000. The teacher tried to reject the generous gesture, saying it was too much, but the kid insisted that his dad asked him to give a tip.

Story 2: The ‘cold’ coffee

A person shared that she once worked as a production assistant for a late-night talk show host. The host always had to have his coffee very hot. Two weeks into working, the employee made his coffee for him at 185 degrees Fahrenheit but when the talk show host took one sip, he threw it at her while screaming that it wasn’t hot enough.

If she hadn’t moved out of the way, she would have gotten severely burned. While the employee quit that night, the show’s producer had to spend an hour convincing her to stop making a formal complaint about the assault.

Story 3: Mariah Carey’s drinking problems

Mariah Carey may be famous for many reasons including her out-of-this-world voice and lavish lifestyle. She isn’t particularly known for her binge-drinking habits, but according to certain employees of the mega-star, Mariah tends to drink so much at home that, at times, she needs help in order to get dressed. Hopefully, these reports are a little exaggerated otherwise, it sounds like the star needs to sleep it off.

Story 4: A caring boss

An anonymous source shared that he works for a well-known female comedian who has written and starred in beloved TV shows. He described her as one of the most amazing people he has ever met. In addition to being a funny person with a great sense of humor, she’s super smart and is a great mom to her adorable kids. He had previously worked for other celebrities and she was the first to actually care about his personal life. When his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, not only did she give him a paid time off for several months to take care of her, but she also checked in from time to time and worried about his health. Even after he went back to work, his boss would ask about my mom. And when his mother finally beat cancer, the comedian sent her a wonderful ‘spa day’ gift basket with lotions, candles, plush robes, and expensive chocolates
