These Female Soldiers are Far From Friendly When Defending Their Countries

Kerrin O’Neill

Kerrin O’Neill has been a combat controller in the U.S. Air Force for two years. She was among the three women out of 115 recruits who successfully completed the entire course during her first week of basic training. She later graduated from Air Force basic training in her 10th week before joining Combat Control School to learn how to control air traffic over war zones.

As the only woman in this role in the entire Air Force, she is likely to be deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq. Despite some resistance from her fellow airmen, O’Neill believes that women are strong and capable of fulfilling their potential.
