Where Does Elon Musk Live? Let’s Find Out!

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and visionary behind Tesla and SpaceX, is known for pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation. With a staggering net worth of $175 billion in 2023, one might expect him to live in the lap of luxury.

However, Musk’s approach to real estate is anything but conventional. This article delves into where Elon Musk lives and his previous real estate ventures, including a jaw-dropping $100 million property portfolio.

The Modest Abode in Bel Air

Despite his immense wealth, Elon Musk resides in a rather ‘modest’ home. In late 2012, he acquired a seven-bedroom property in the upscale Bel Air neighborhood for $17 million.

This residence, boasting a tennis court, wine cellar, and a two-story library, seemed tailor-made for Musk’s large family, which includes seven children from various relationships, including Grimes, Shivon Zilis, and Justine Musk. Elon called this house home for almost a decade, sharing it with two sons.

One interesting tidbit about his Bel Air property is that it was once owned by the legendary actor Gene Wilder. Musk eventually listed this mansion for a cool $9.5 million.

The Surprise Takeover and Divestment

In a move that surprised many, Elon Musk acquired Twitter for a staggering $44 billion in 2020. Concurrently, he made another unexpected decision: divesting from his real estate portfolio. He declared his intention to “live in no house” and relocated to Texas, where his primary focus shifted to SpaceX’s ambitious Mars mission.

The Texan Tiny Home

Elon Musk’s current residential situation raises eyebrows. He reportedly owns a modest three-bedroom house in Boca Chica, South Texas, which he acquired for a mere $45,000. However, this unassuming 375-square-foot dwelling is not his primary residence. Instead, it serves as a guest house, and in 2021, Musk even hosted a party there.

This unconventional choice of residence sparked various speculations. While some view it as a practical decision due to its proximity to SpaceX’s launch facility, others see darker undertones. Rumors swirl that Musk envisions developing parts of Texas into a ‘utopian city.’

The Visionary Utopian City: ‘Snailbrook’

Elon Musk’s ambitions extend beyond the confines of his eccentric living arrangements. Reports from Architectural Digest reveal that entities linked to Musk and his various companies have acquired approximately 3,500 acres of land outside of Austin, Texas.

Their grand plan? To build a town for employees of Musk’s enterprises to inhabit. This romantic city has already been christened ‘Snailbrook,’ in homage to Musk’s tunneling company, Boring Co., which will have many of its staff residing in this Austin-based campus upon completion.
